Internship Announcement: National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) Application Deadline: October 12, 2002 for Winter Session, November 30, 2002 for Spring Session, February 1, 2003 for Summer Session, July 13, 2002 for Fall Session

National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) Internship Program

The Internship Program of the National Museum of the American Indian is designed to provide an educational opportunity for students in the area of museum practice and related programming through guided work/research experiences using the resources of the National Museum of the American Indian and other Smithsonian offices. http://www.si.edu/ofg/internopp.htm

Past projects include: developing and evaluating visitor guides, cataloging photos, monitoring collections, installing exhibits, exhibit research, developing educational programs for the public, and developing databases and press kits.

Term and Deadline*: 4 sessions held throughout the year, all lasting for 10 weeks

Winter - First full week of January, for ten weeks (Oct. 10)
Spring - Third full week of March, for ten weeks (Nov. 20)
Summer - First full week of June, for ten weeks (Feb. 6)
Fall - Last full week of September, for ten weeks (July 12)

*If dates fall on a weekend or holiday, the actual deadline date will be the first workday after the given date.

Stipend: A limited number of stipends target American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Alaska Native students currently enrolled in academic programs.

Program/Project Coordinator II, University of North Texas: Region VI Community Rehabilitation Program - Regional Continuing Education Program (CRP-RCEP)

  • PROGRAM/PROJECT COORDINATOR II (Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions)
  • $3,333- $3,750 per month, commensurate with experience
  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or related field required (CRC preferred).
  • Two years post-graduate experience to include actual delivery and/or oversight of employment programs in community rehabilitation settings.
  • Ability to produce training materials and deliver them in an effective manner;
  • Knowledge necessary of supported employment procedures for people with disabilities, AT, reasonable accommodations, and ADA;
  • Working knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation system including federal, state, and CRPs;
  • Ability to travel at least 50% of the time; overnight stays required. Hours: Mon. - Fri.; occasional evenings.

Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation/Director of Research, the incumbent develops research strategies and collection policies and procedures; conducts research in vocational rehabilitation for a five year federally funded project; and supervises research technicians. A Bachelor's Degree is required and a Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation is preferred. Position contingent on federal funding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Person must adhere to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe's Policies & Procedures; Assists in the recruitment and training of Tribal research technicians; Assists in conducting a Tribal research program in vocational rehabilitation; including data collection and analysis, reporting and dissemination activities; Consults with the Director of Research to implement the project research goals. Identifies and prioritizes all tasks; Manages Research Website ensuring availability of updated information on project activities; Writes project summary reports; Supervises research technicians; and oversees the scheduling, data collection and analysis for descriptive study of Tribal disability needs; Promotes public relation via inter-Tribal information exchange and education, academic/Professional information exchange, and public lectures.

Associate Director of Admission/Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment

Responsibilities: Initiate and oversee public relations, marketing and efforts directed particularly towards the recruitment of students of color to the college. Coordinate efforts across the college regarding the enrollment of students of color. Develop and maintain a network of recruitment sources beyond traditional secondary schools; develop targeted student of color recruiting efforts involving faculty, students, alumnae and various campus organizations; provide strategic leadership and direction for on and off campus admission programs to increase applications and yield of admitted students of color; serve as a liaison to the Office of Institutional Diversity and Office of Multicultural Affairs and as an active participant in campus organizations and events addressing issues relevant to students, faculty and alumnae of color; supervise admission counselor(s); read, evaluate and vote on admissibility of candidates for admission! ; plan and coordinate approximately five to eight weeks of travel to recruit students; handle correspondence with students, parents, counselors,agencies and other constituencies with emphasis on multicultural recruitment.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree, graduate degree preferred; minimum of three years of admission or related experience with evidence of progressively more responsibility. Experience with multicultural recruitment process a plus. Sensitivity to the challenges of multicultural recruitment and commitment to diversity in a residential liberal arts community a must. Good humor and grace under pressure appreciated. Valid drivers license required.

2004 CIC Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)

Eligible students: African American, Mexican American, American Indian, Puerto Rican, and other Latino groups, who are sophomores or juniors majoring in any field. Seniors who expect to graduate in May or August of 2004 are not eligible for this program.

The CIC/SROP provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduates to conduct eight to ten weeks of faculty-guided research on one of the Big 10 campuses. Currently, there are fifteen CIC campuses that will provide SROP students with an opportunity to conduct faculty-guided research projects on their campuses during the 2004 summer. Students accepted to the SROP Program will receive a research stipend of $3,000 or higher, paid travel to and from the university, and a research stipend.
