MOBILE, Ala. – Cherokee Nation citizen Christian Snow, who plays first base and designated hitter for the University of Mobile Rams, was recently named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Player of the Week for baseball.

Snow was recognized for the week of March 12-18 after posting 14 hits, 17 RBIs, 13 runs scored and seven home runs during a five-game stretch.

“It was a good feeling. One of my coaches told me I was the first player at this school to get National Player of the Week,” Snow said.

Before playing at the collegiate level, Snow said he’s played baseball since he was about 4 years old when his father taught him and his siblings how to play.

“My whole family is into athletics. My dad started working with us real early, and I just fell in love with it,” he said.

In 2013, he graduated from Saraland High School in Saraland and received a baseball scholarship to Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette. After playing two seasons and receiving All-Conference and All-Region honors, Snow walked on at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I University of South Alabama in Mobile. However, prior to playing his first game for the USA Jaguars, Snow decided to take a hiatus from his baseball career to work.

Nearly two years later, he was contacted by the Rams’ baseball coach and decided to return to pursue his higher education and play college baseball.

Since his return Snow has received several honors, including National Player of the Week, the Southern States Athletic Conference’s Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Conference. As of publication, he was 17th in the NAIA in homers (14), 18th in total bases (128) and 20th in RBI (57), while hitting .389 and totaling 72 hits.

Snow said he has his family’s support, especially his father’s, who is retired and attends all of his games.

“For me to take two years and come back and play as good as I did, it’s a good feeling,” Snow said.
As of publication, the Rams had finished its regular season with a 40-13 record and a No. 14 ranking in the NAIA polls. The team was beginning SSAC tournament play.
