Young Native Storytellers Contest

by Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program

*Attention: contest requirements have been updated as of 10/5/17. Thank you for your patience and understanding -we look forward to reading your application!

Contest Description:

The 3rd Annual Yale Young Native Storytellers Contest is sponsored by the Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program to showcase the breadth of storytelling by indigenous youth. To support the next generation of storytellers, we invite indigenous youth to submit written versions of their plays and video versions of their songs, dances, stories, or poetry for consideration. Winners of the contest (and one parent/guardian for winners under the age of 18) will receive an all-expense paid trip to Yale University as a part of the Young Native Storytellers Festival on May 6, 2018. All winners will have the opportunity to perform their work as a part of the festival and the winning play will be performed as a staged reading with community and professional actors.

Below, you can find all information for applicants to apply in each category. While we understand that Native people come from interdisciplinary artistic communities, out of respect for the number of applicants, we ask that you only submit to one category. If you are unsure as to which area you should apply, please send us an email as we are happy to advise. If you have any further questions, please send us an email at yipapstorytellers@gmail.com.

Once you review the necessary information, click on this bolded link to the application form. We thank you for your creativity and look forward to reading, hearing, and watching your work!
