MOENKOPI, AZ — "I am proud to announce a reservation wide campaign to encourage the use and teaching of the Hopi language," said Jeremey King, Facilitator of the Moenkopi Developers Corporations "Changing Views" Language Enhancement Project. "The Project comprises of Community enthusiasts concerned about the current issues surrounding the loss of the Hopi language and Cultural teachings."

According to King, the conditions of the local Hopi communities, society and the environment, are worse than before and have all contributed to language loss and and culture.

During the month of January, 2016 the Colorado Plateau Foundation awarded the Moenkopi Developers Corporation a Grant Award to begin working with Hopi community members to enhance and encourage use of the Hopi Language.

Meetings were held with local Elders, community members, businesses, and families to inform and encourage participation in the year long language enhancement Project.

The title "Changing Views," was chosen in hopes that views on the importance of language and language loss would be re-evaluated and, hopefully prioritized, to help make this project a success.

The Project continues to be successful, and participants are seeking financial support to help sustain the Project.

Weekly sessions are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4pm in the TsotsVahl-Ki at the Moenkopi Legacy Inn. Sessions are open to anyone wanting to gain more information about the Project.

Children, adults, and Elders of the Hopi Tribe are the future of the Hopi Religion and considered to be the greatest working assets within the Hopi Communities. All possess great wealth in culture, tradition and ceremonial beliefs.

"The Elders of our Hopi community will not only be recognized for their cultural knowledge and wealth of knowledge, but also the extent of historical information they possess," said King. "We appreciate and encourage your presence, your participation, and contributions of historical information to this Project."

Financial contribution to this Project will go towards promoting a successful and healthier life, provide a clearer understanding of the culture and most importantly, help revitalize, teach and sustain the Hopi language.
