YA-TAH-HEY, NM -Nine years ago, the Gallup
Lions Club and the T&R Feed & Rope Center launched a riding
craze with their Wooly Riding Championship series.
The annual series has attracted riders from all over the reservation
and last Saturday's event was no different as 66 wooly riders took
part in the riding competition.
The series is open to anyone 7 and under who is willing to take
the plunge on a 100-pound-plus sheep. For those ages 8 to 12, they
can take part in the steer-riding portion of the series.
"We've been fairly consistent," coordinator Scott
Clawson said. "It always fluctuates a little bit from year
to year but it's been pretty good. I can't complain."
With two events completed the series is halfway done with the
next two events being held on May 10 and 17 at the T&R Feed
Store along U.S. Highway 491.
