Taylor Thomas,
21, from Fort Hall, was crowned 2014 Miss Indian World at the 31st
Annual Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend.
ALBUQUERQUE,
N.M. Fort Hall resident Taylor Thomas, who is a member of
the Shoshone Bannock tribe, was crowned Miss Indian World at the
31st Annual Gathering of Nations, one of the most prominent Native
American powwows in the world.
Thomas received the honor out of 23 Native American women representing
each of their different tribes and traditions. They competed in
the areas of tribal knowledge, dancing ability, public speaking
and personality assessment. She is currently attending Idaho State
University.
Miss Indian World is one of the most prestigious honors
in the Native American and indigenous world and the winner will
serve as a role model for all Native Americans," said Melonie
Mathews, coordinator of the Miss Indian World Pageant. "Thomas
will travel the world educating others about tribal and cultural
traditions, and bring together native and indigenous people."
Thomas is the daughter of Wendy Farmer and Jason Thomas. As
Miss Indian World, she will represent all native and indigenous
people as a cultural goodwill ambassador for one year.
The 31st Annual Gathering of Nations was held from April 24
to 26.
