	Playworks: Week of the Young Child "Children's Opportunities are Our Responsibilities"

Prior Lake, MN...Playworks will join early childhood educators and programs around the country in celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 18-25, 2004. This event is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education for Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. NAEYC, which has over 100,000 members and a network of nearly 450 affiliates, designates the dates and theme for the week, but events are planned and implemented by local communities.

"The early childhood years lay the foundation for children's successes in school and later in life. Because this time is so important, we honor our children, their families, and the individuals who provide childcare. The Week of the Young Child at Playworks is filled with fun activities, " said Playworks Director Amy Donaldson. "As part of this special week, we're celebrating spring and Earth Day by introducing our Playworks children to environmental activities."

Playworks Week of the Young Child will include these elements:

On Sunday, April 18th, the focus will be on Atrium Fun. Children will play in the area's largest indoor playstructure.
On Monday, April 19th, it's Animal Day. Children are invited to dress like their favorite animal. There will also be a visit by a pet ranch.
On Tuesday, April 20th, it's Slumber Day. Children are invited to dress in their pajamas to watch a movie in the Playworks LINK Event Center. (For Pod 5, it's Carnival Day).
On Wednesday, April 21st, it's Appreciation Day. (A surprise for children in Pods 3, 4, Pre-K, and Kindergarten).
On Thursday, April 22nd, it's Earth Day. Children are invited to dress in green and perform clean up activities. Every child will receive a small spruce tree to take home. (Finger-painting for Pod 5, Pre School and Pre-K).
On Friday, April 23rd, it's Carnival Day for the Main Playworks. (Crazy Hair/Slumber Day for Pod 5).
On Saturday, April 24th, it's Planting with Children. The children will plant seeds for plants to grow in their classrooms. They will learn about the elements that a seed needs to grow into a healthy plant.

Playworks is a one-of-a kind, world-class facility for children. Whether it's through Educare (Playworks' own blend of education, care and fun), Summer Camp, Birthday Parties, Family Play, or Group Trips, Playworks has incredible variety, like interactive, age-appropriate computer games (non-violent, of course!), arts and crafts, reading, building blocks, make believe, or free play. Professional teachers work with children to provide a nurturing, safe, fun learning experience. Giggles, laughter, and smiles are what you see in a Playworks child. Playworks is owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.
