Scholarship Opportunity For NABI Athletes

Phoenix, AZ - SiTanka University at Huron, located in central South Dakota, will be offering scholarships for it's 2003-2004 school sessions. In it's second year of offering these scholarships, they are being made available to the participating athletes of the event and are available to any Native American enrolled in a tribe provided their meet tribal deadline requirements. The value of the scholarships are placed at approximately $13,000.00 and include full tuition, room, board and books and fees.

The university has a very diverse student body. Although the university is not on a reservation, there is a strong Native American presence in its student population of about 600 students. Shane Warwick, head men's basketball coach stated, "I saw the Native American Basketball Invitational ad in a newspaper and thought it would be a great opportunity for everyone involved."

Si Tanka University offers degree programs for business and nursing to computer science, criminal justice, education and athletic training. The institution offers a century-long foundation of educational excellence, revitalized campus environment, innovative approach to learning, outstanding faculty, and student-centered philosophy of personalized service.

The Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI), held July 10 through July 13, 2003 at America West Arena in Phoenix, AZ, will be featuring 24 teams of male and female Native American high school student- athletes. Sponsors of this event include the Phoenix Suns, Nike/NikeGO, the Phoenix Mercury, America West Arena, RedNations.com and The Native Voice.
