AmeriCorps Position Openings, Minneapolis
10 Full-Time Positions Beginning September, 2003

Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) is a 31-year-old Twin Cities non-profit organization that assists lower income individuals and families to work toward self-sufficiency by providing jobs, housing and training. AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages persons over 17 years old in a year of national service in their communities. It is similar to the overseas Peace Corps Program. This year, over 50,000 AmeriCorps Members are working in communities around the United States.

Minimum Requirements:
Age 18 or older with a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or working on G.E.D. Valid Minnesota Drivers' License and good driving record within the last 3 years. Ability to work with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and income levels. Good basic communication skills (written and oral) and basic math skills.

Driving record and background checks will be required.

Compensation: The AmeriCorps Living Allowance for 1700 hours of service is $9,900. A $4,725 education award, upon satisfactory completion of 1700 hours of service, can be used for past student loans or future education. Student loan payments deferred during the year of service. Health care insurance provided. Transportation reimbursement and childcare reimbursement are available.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


Director, Center for Indian Education, Arizona State University (deadline extended beyond March 31, 2003)

The Center for Indian Education is an interdisciplinary research and service organization housed in the College of Education at Arizona State University. The purpose of the Center is to serve as the major research and resource center in the field of American Indian Education and related fields, and to provide various services to Indian communities of the Southwest. For additional information, refer to the Center's website at http://coe.asu.edu/cie/.

The successful candidate would provide the leadership necessary to plan, implement, advance, disseminate, and evaluate the research and service functions of the Center. Identify and seek sources of external support for the Center to conduct these activities. Allocate and supervise the use of resources, including budget and personnel.

Work with College and University personnel to develop interdisciplinary academic programs and research activities enhancing community based Indian education, particularly in teacher preparation and administration, and language and cultural maintenance and revitalization. Extend the Center's outreach to further the research and development activities in collaboration with schools and community agencies serving Native populations. Appointment is at the rank of associate or full professor.

Qualifications required are evidence of: an understanding and a commitment to advancing Indian education appropriate to rank; a distinguished record of research and scholarly productivity in Indian education; successful work with Native communities and schools serving Native populations; and experience working with staff, faculty, students, administrators, and members of tribal, state, and government agencies. Must have an earned doctorate in education or related field.

Desired qualifications include: administrative experience in coordinating and budgeting similar units; evidence of success in funding proposal writing and development, and in the development of interdisciplinary academic and research programs; demonstrated record of successful teaching related to Indian education.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Full Time Lecturer, College of Education Indigenous Teacher Program,
Arizona State University

The Division of Curriculum and Instruction seeks a full time lecturer to work in the College of Education Indigenous Teacher Program. Job responsibilities will include the academic coordination of the program including course scheduling, instructor hires, student and instructor evaluations, mentoring students, establishing and maintaining field sites, facilitating communication with site administrators, students and campus personnel, and teaching methods courses in the program. This is intended to be a continuing position with a three (3) appointment to be renewed annually. The initial funding is from a federal grant through Spring 2004.
Continuation is dependent upon funding. The program includes six (6) week supplemental summer components.

Qualifications Required
Earned masters degree in education or related field, 3 years k-12 teaching experience, knowledge of American Indian culture, established record of working successfully with American Indian populations. Desired Experience as a teacher educator or mentor. Administrative experience and/or experience as a coordinator of programs.

Assistant Dean of First-Year Students, Dartmouth College

Dear Colleagues:
Dartmouth College is currently searching for two Assistant Deans of First-Year Students and would appreciate your assistance in identifying qualified candidates. The Dean of First-Year Students, in concert with the three assistant deans, is responsible for the successful transition and well-being of all first-year students. The office organizes and administers advising, first-year seminars, orientation, living-learning programs, an integrated academic support program, a summer research program and family orientation. The deans also serve as judicial hearing officers for the College. The position description follows.

Assistant Dean of First-Year Students
Resumes are being accepted for two positions, one full-time and one half-time, requiring generalists to share responsibility for implementing programs and policies that facilitate the transition of first-year students to college. The deans are responsible for individual counseling of students on academic and personal matters, advising students on academic requirements and ensuring that students uphold the Standards of Conduct.

The full-time assistant dean will also assume responsibility for one or more programmatic initiatives in the First-Year Office such as: First-Year Orientation, the Integrated Academic Support Program and/or the First-Year Residential Experience program. The half-time dean will be responsible for the East Wheelock Cluster, a living-learning community housing first-year and upperclass students. The successful candidates must be sensitive to the academic, social and emotional challenges of adapting to a highly competitive academic environment. The positions require tactful, supportive and confidential communication with students, parents, faculty and administrators.

Highly preferred qualifications include a doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D) or a Master's Degree and five years' relevant experience in academic administration. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, counseling and communication skills; sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and concerns of a diverse student population is essential. Experience in a liberal arts college setting is desirable.
