Meet Gabriela Lujan |

As a young child, I immigrated with my family from Peru to the United States. Creating art and exploring sociopolitical issues became important ways of integrating the dislocation I experienced along with my family. Art gave those experiences a transformative visual form. I
am largely a self taught artist. I received my undergraduate degree in
International Studies and have worked with various non profit organizations
assisting underrepresented communities of color. Over the past 6 years
I have worked as a community artist collaborating on murals and installation
projects with muralists and filmmakers in California. This past year I
have been working on my individual projects with the support of grants
from the City of San Francisco and the Serpent Source Foundation. Over
the recent years I have participated in several group shows in San Francisco
and in Washington DC. |
