Tired of being brown, one day the moose decided he'd like to be as pretty as the wildflowers. He bathed himself in the colors of the iris and fireweed, and dubbed himself the "Fancy Moose."

Two Alutiiq hunters were out in their baidarka searching for sea otters. They noticed a brilliant light in the sky, and soon the image of a sea otter appeared looming over the islands. The otter said, "Leave some for future generations." An image of a whale, and petroglphs carved by their ancestors also appeared in the sky. The hunters heeded the warning of the otter, and took no more than they needed.
