POLACCA,
AZ - Carlene Tenakhongva, a senior at Hopi High School, will attend
Dartmouth in the fall. Tenakhongva, who is the Valedictorian for Hopi
High Schools 6 p.m. May 24 graduation, said she is excited about
attending the Ivy League school.
"Im anxious to go. Ive
wanted to go to Dartmouth since I was a freshman. Its been
one of my longtime goals, and now that its here its
cool that my dream became a reality," she said.
Tenakhongva said she is especially honored
to be the first student from Hopi High School to attend Dartmouth.
"I hope it shows others that its not out of reach,"
she said.
Tenakhongva, who is Hopi, said because
shes the first student from Hopi High to attend Dartmouth
that shell try extra hard to succeed.
"I know the challenge that Dartmouth
presents," she said. "Its not only far away from
home, but its a different environment and culture. It will
be academically rigorous. There wont be any easy classes."
