Volunteers Needed

Native American Youth Service Day muralVolunteers are needed to help out with the fifth annual Native American Youth Service Day in Browning by engaging in various service projects and fun activities throughout the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

The Blackfeet Youth Initiative, a children's volunteer group and AmeriCorps program, organized the event, which kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 in Browning's "Government Square" with sign-up and breakfast.

After participants go to various project sites, they'll meet at the local school for a parade of volunteers and walk to "Government Square," where they'll be served a meal and take part in more activities.

Organizers hope the day that celebrates culture, service, youth leadership and community involvement will become a model of how Native Americans and non-Native American's can work together for a better future.

AmeriCorps members and volunteers from across Montana will be participating in the event. AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 50,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year.

For more information, please call the group at (406) 338-2748 or visit their website:
