Blue Corn Comics is gearing up for the next edition of PEACE PARTY, the multicultural comic book featuring Native Americans. The publisher is seeking professional comic-book artists to continue the adventures of its young Indian heroes. The ideal candidate is someone with a Native background who can do dynamic storytelling in a realistic superhero style. See: http://www.bluecorncomics.com/artwrite.htm Art Contest Announced! As part of this search, Blue Corn Comics and Canku Ota are holding a drawing contest for young artists. Our goal is to encourage kids to get in touch with their artistic side and their Native heritage. Here are the rules: Theme: The theme of the contest is "Native Heroes." That includes the anonymous heroes who domesticated corn and built civilizations such as Cahokia, historical heroes such as Sacagawea and Sitting Bull, modern heroes such as Jim Thorpe and Wilma Mankiller, and personal heroes such as one's parents or teachers. It also includes fictional heroes such as Tonto, Tony Hillerman's Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, Thunderbird of the X-Men, and Billy and Drew of Peace Party. (For reference pictures of Native characters in comic books, go to the http://www.bluecorncomics.com/graphics.htm Ages: You can submit drawings in one of THREE age categories: 0-8, 9-13, and 14-18. Each category will be judged separately. Submissions: We prefer that you send drawings by e-mail to Vicki at Canku Ota, email garnet1654@aol.com. If that isn't possible, you can write to Vicki at Canku Ota and she'll give you a mailing address. With each drawing include the artist's first name, e-mail address (to notify you if you win), age, tribal affiliation (if any), name of school (if any), city and state or province, and title or subject of the drawing. See our privacy policy. All submissions become the property of Canku Ota unless you include a self-addressed stamped envelope for their return. Deadline: May 31, 2002. Judges: Rob Schmidt, publisher of Blue Corn Comics, and a panel of comic-book and Native experts will pick winners in each category. All decisions of the judges are final. Prizes: The winner in each age category will receive a pack of six classic comic books, including one issue of PEACE PARTY and one of another Indian comic book. All entries will be posted on the Canku Ota website for people to see. Entries of exceptional quality may be published in a future edition of PEACE PARTY. The small print: Void where prohibited by law. So get out your crayons, sharpen your pencils, clean your paintbrushes. We hope this will be a fun experience for all the readers of Canku Ota and PEACE PARTY.
