	The National Museum of the American Indian announces a new Website

The National Museum of the American Indian announces a new Website and invites you to use it and link to it. www.nativenetworks.si.edu (English) www.redesindigenas.si.edu (Spanish) The Film and Video Center of the National Museum of the American Indian announces a unique new Website devoted to Native American media--film, video, radio, television and new media--throughout the Americas. The site presents feature articles and related links, Native media news, resources for producers and for the general public and a catalog of outstanding recent productions. Its first features are on Native radio in U.S., Mexico and Panama: teen video; the innovative Bolivian Native media organization, CEFREC; and an interview with award-winning film director Randy Redroad (Cherokee). The Website is bilingual—English and Spanish. Search tools have been implemented on the English site and are in process for the Spanish site. Native Media News is posted every two months, and new features every four months—the next features will be posted in spring 2002. A bulletin board for timely and topical communications among media makers and the public is in development. In addition to the Internet, by summer 2002 the contents of the site will be distributed in alternate ways to serve users with limited access to the Internet. Envisioned is both distribution of CD's and print versions in English, Spanish and Portuguese, updated every four months. We are exploring free email enrollment on the site that would also enable us to distribute Native Media News by email. The Website has been made possible with the support of The Ford Foundation. This initiative has experimented with bringing to the Internet many diverse facets of Native American media. It reflects the mission and diverse activities of NMAI’s Film and Video Center to showcase outstanding new works and provide information about Native media throughout the Western Hemisphere.
