Children Seeking Peace and Understanding by D.MorriseauYouth Council representatives from eight tribes in Montana and two in Wyoming converged on Billings Saturday, Nov. 24, to take part in the first organizational meeting of the newly formed Montana-Wyoming Youth Tribal Leaders, according to group coordinator and new chairman Jay Dusty Bull of Browning High School.

"I coordinated this organization because I saw a need for youth leaders, so I called 10 reservations to send representatives," Dusty Bull said Monday.

Youth arrived from the Chippewa-Cree, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, Salish-Kootenai, Little Shell Tribe, Ft. Peck, Ft. Belknap and the Blackfeet Reservation, as well as Ft. Washakie and the Arapaho-Shoshone from Wyoming.

While Dusty Bull said the group is still working on its mission statement, they are agreed on emphasizing the importance of students through education and athletics, in addition to the goal of preserving Indian homelands.

The group is meeting once a month, said Dusty Bull who is also student body president at BHS, president of the BHS bank and chairman of the Blackfeet Tribal Business Youth Council.
