	Eiteljorg Announces Fellowships for 2001

The Eiteljorg Museum recently announced the recipients of its 2001 Eiteljorg Fellowships for Native American Art. The fellowships are a national program designed to identify, reward and raise public awareness of American Indian fine artists. Each of the 2001 fellowship recipients will receive a $20,000 cash award in November when an exhibition of their work opens at the Eiteljorg Museum. The fellows are: • Rick Bartow (Yurok/Mad River Band), South Beach, Ore. • Joe Fedderson (Colville Confederated Tribes), Lacey, Wash. • Susie Silook (Siberian Yupik/Inupiaq), Anchorage, Alaska • Teresa Marshall (Mi'kmaq), Millbrook Reserve, Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada • Shelley Niro (Bay of Quinte Mohawk), Brantford, Ontario, Canada In addition to the five fellows, the 2001 Eiteljorg Fellowship is rewarding and recognizing a master artist: the late Allan Houser (Chiricahua Apache), Fort Sill, Okla. "Native American artists have made and continue to make important contributions to the world of fine art," said John Vanausdall, president and CEO of the Eiteljorg Museum. "The Eiteljorg Fellowship program allows us to bring these contributions to the public's attention and reward the artists for their dedication." Besides the cash rewards and exhibition, the program includes purchases of the fellows' art for the Eiteljorg's permanent collection and an internationally distributed exhibition catalog.
