Laura Dance and Cultural Festival

Within the shadows of the world's oldest art galleries lies a place of magic and beauty.

Every two years a meeting of ancient wisdom and youthful energy takes place and transforms this sacred area into a ring of music, dance, colour, hope and life……….

In an explosive celebration of indigenous culture and history, The Laura Dance and Cultural Festival 2001 - RECONCILIATION will be an inspiring call for an answer to the nation's plea for reconciliation.

From June 22-24 2001, the traditional Bora Ground on the Laura River Valley will come to life in a unique gathering of Cape York and Gulf Communities. Showcasing the communities' dancing, music, imagery and singing, The Laura Dance and Cultural Festival will provide an unforgettable insight into the ancient wonders and priceless gifts indigenous culture offers all Australians.

The Ang-gnarra Aboriginal Corporation host the Laura Dance and Cultural Festival. The Events Division of The Adventure Company Australia (Explore Australia South Pacific) has been appointed the Event Manager of the Laura Dance and Cultural Festival. Explore Australia S.P has a deep knowledge of the Laura region, a diverse and highly experienced management team and a commitment to the Tropical North Region.

Reconciliation 2001
The theme Reconciliation is timely and has wide appeal and social relevance. This theme will be a recurring element of the event and will be consistent throughout the schedule of activities and performances. Reconciliation-related initiatives will be introduced into the festival's programme.

Laura Dance and Cultural Festival 2001 - RECONCILIATION will be an unforgettable show-casing of the best of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art and Culture.

With a carefully planned schedule and a diverse range of activities and performances, Reconciliation 2001 promises to provide a rich experience of dance, arts, singing, music and interactive demonstrations.

The successful elements of previous festivals will be retained and built upon. This strong foundation provides an ideal starting point for Reconciliation 2001.
