Call for Papers

The 15th annual California Indian Conference will be held at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California on October 14-15, 2000. The California Indian Conference is an annual gathering for the exchange of views and information among academics, American Indians, students, and other community members. Any topic reflecting humanistic, scientific, social, literary, or historical concern with alifornia Indian people and their heritage is welcome. Past topics have included literatures, and stories.

Anyone interested in giving a paper or making a presentation should send an abstract of 150 words to Dr. LaMay at the address below by
September 1, 2000. Abstracts received after this date will be considered only if space is available on the program. Please be sure to include an address, e-mail address, and phone number and state if you are available both days. Inquiries are welcome as well.

We are pleased to announce that selected papers may be considered for later publication in several journals. You may wan to keep this in mind as you conceptualize your presentations.

Admission to the conference will be $30.00 for all persons attending. Special conference airfare, rental car, hotel rates and other benefits available.

"Truth and Lies,"
A new exhibit of multicultural artists, will open
Friday, August 11th at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA.
Each artist exposes the truths about-and-behind lies which have been perpetuated for generations.

Featured Native American Artists are:

George Longfish (Seneca/Tuscarora) - mixed media on canvas; large scale
Sandy Osawa (Spokane) - "On & Off the Rez" documentary profiling Charlie Hill
Rabbett Strickland (Ojibwe) - oils on canvas; large scale
David Yohn - multimedia/video installation

“Consulting with Native American Groups,”
September 12-14, 2000 in Seattle, Washington.

Course Description:
Federal law and rules mandate various levels of consultation with affected or potentially affected parties when significant heritage resources are threatened by either federal or state projects. The course is for both tribal and non-tribal groups with whom governmental officials must consult. Tribal sovereignty, laws, internal procedures and traditional concerns may conflict with non-Indian expectations. Learn how to create a constructive consultation environment and how to facilitate effective cross-cultural communication.

The National Intertribal Tax Organization
presents the 2000 Intertribal Tax Conference


The National Intertribal Tax Organization presents the 2000 Intertribal Tax Conference October 18-20, 2000 at the Double Tree Hotel at Warren Place in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Early registration cost is $250 per person or $225 for groups of 3 or more registering at the same time recieved by October 6, 2000.

General session will include topics such as Tribal Taxation and Sovereignty, Recent Legislative Developements, Economic Impact of State and Tribal Tax Agreements also, Vehicle Registration and Privilege-Gas Tax.
